Lavender oil helps reduce pain in children

Researchers from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences conducted a study in Iran on 48 children ages 6-12 to determine the effectiveness of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil. The effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy against pain after tonsil removal has been determined. Besides lavender, the other group was given only painkillers. Frequency of acetaminophen use and awakening due to pain were monitored for a few days along with pain intensity. Although there were not any significant differences, children who used lavender were found to use acetaminophen less. Tylenol or paracetamol is also called acetaminophen. Therefore, more research is needed to prove that lavender can be used as an effective pain reliever in special cases such as surgery
