gain control and lose weight quickly with gastric banding

Many people want and need to lose weight but don't seem to be making any progress. Weight-loss surgery is beneficial for patients who are seriously overweight and who have tried and failed other treatments. Studies have shown that weight loss surgery such as gastric bypass surgery has helped patients maintain their weight loss for longer than non-surgical treatments. By having this surgery, you will be on the path to better health and an improved quality of life.

Since gaining approval in June 2001 by the Food and Drug Administration, the BioEnterics® LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System is the world's most recent FDA-approved device for the surgical treatment of morbid obesity in the United States. It helps in weight loss by reducing the capacity of the stomach, which reduces the amount of food that can be eaten. Since its introduction in 1993, more than 180,000 gastric banding procedures have been performed worldwide.

What is duct tape surgery?

The safest and least invasive weight loss surgery is the gastric band surgery. There is no cutting, stapling, or rerouting the stomach in the gastric bypass surgery. This reduces postoperative pain and speeds up recovery. The name "lap-band" comes from the surgical technique, laparoscopy, and the name of the implanted device.

During the procedure, the gastric band surgeon usually uses a laparoscopic technique. Instead of making a large incision, they make small incisions and use tools to insert the lap belt. There is less chance of side effects and nutritional deficiencies often associated with gastric bypass surgery. Gastric banding involves placing an adjustable gastric band around the top of the stomach to create a smaller stomach pouch. This limits the amount of food a person can consume at one time. With a smaller stomach, you feel full faster, and food moves more slowly between your upper and lower stomach. This helps you eat less food and lose weight.

Once the band is placed around the stomach, it is attached to an access port in the skin of your abdomen. The surgeon can then inject the inside of the stomach with saline. This adjusts the size of the gastric outlet to restrict the amount of food that can be moved through it. This process helps determine the rate of weight loss. It can be adjusted according to individual needs as you lose weight or help speed up the weight loss process. It can be modified or removed without surgery.

Learning to eat after surgery

After surgery, there are some dietary restrictions that benefit the patient. For the first three to four days after surgery, patients should follow a clear liquid diet. This gives the patient enough time to adjust to the new stomach and avoid complications. In the first 3 months after surgery, caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea or soda are not allowed. Soft drinks are not recommended as they can cause gas and bloating. It can also cause the stomach to increase in size due to carbonation.

The next stage is a modified liquid diet that helps you adjust to eating smaller meals. You will be given instructions on how much protein and vegetables to eat. The Lap Band diet does not include most types of bread, potatoes or starchy foods. You will be encouraged to eat plenty of protein to avoid deficiency and side effects.

Lose weight and keep it off

After gastric band surgery, you will learn to take small bites and eat slowly. There will be some foods that will be left out to avoid causing digestive issues. As you begin to lose weight, these diet adjustments will become a new way of life.

Fewer risks and side effects

With the risk of death significantly lower than other bariatric surgery procedures, gastric banding has become a popular form of surgery. Low risk of nutritional deficiencies associated with gastric bypass where the stomach is not changed at all resulting in the absence of dumping syndrome associated with our food intake.

Gastric banding is an effective long-term weight loss solution

Over 180,000 cases of gastric banding have been performed to date, and academic publications with up to 7 years of follow-up show that gastric banding is one of the best methods for long-term weight loss.
